"We had a great time, the hotel is very close to everything but without all the noise of the main streets. Clean, beautiful and the staff is very helpful. "
"My wife and I spent two nights at the Sanctuary Lodge. It was simply wonderful from the beginning to the end of our stay. Great food, incredible staff. A real jewel by the Machu Picchu ruins. A true paradise."
"I came to Hacienda Roman knowing that in this part of Peru, you can't expect all the amenities like WiFi, cable TV, etc. If you go in with reasonable expectations, you'll be happy with this hotel.
The pros: Staff are quite nice. Food is tasty and available fresh on site. Personal attention, especially the tour of the coffee/jungle out back, is phenomenal. The entire stay was worth it just for this!!
The cons: Cooking is unbelievably slow; it took us no less than 1.5 hours to finish a meal...
"Friendly staff and the hotel is in an excellent location with shopping and dining options nearby. The staff met us at the train station to walk us to our hotel."

Known for its thermal baths, trekking routes and beautiful scenery, this deep valley village is an attractive stopover for those waiting to climb up to Machu Picchu.
We took the train to Aguas Calientes and bus up to Machu Picchu. Be sure to get tickets well in advance. We enjoyed Circuit 4 which brought us into the ruins with an amazing English-speaking guide. Fantastic trip of a lifetime. Not over-rated.

Either hire a guide company or be sure to book your circuits in advance. The mountain is sectioned off. Definitely stay the night, and do opposite circuits if you can, the train ride is long and the city is fun and safe.

Went up for 0600 entry in the rain, the whole site was misty and mysterious. Early enough to see the sundial. Mist shifted around providing amazing views of the site.

Machu Picchu is not a wonder of the modern world without reason. The place has a unique atmosphere. Do not save money on a guide, they bring you to the Inkas history and complete the tour.

Make sure that you purchase entrance and bus tickets ahead of time for Machu Picchu. Circuit 2 ticket is best.

Improving the process for ticketing for both the park and the bus would make it even better. Offering different attractions in Machu Picchu Pueblo would attract tourists to stay longer, reenactments, cultural dinner shows, etc.

We came to Aguascalientes the afternoon before our MP visit. If we had it to do over, we'd probably spend two days in Aguascalientes around our MP time to make it less hectic.

I was lucky and got a second ticket to visit the sanctuary. They always have a few for visitors who didn't buy in advance. And having no car traffic was so relaxing.
