"We weren't prepared for how remote this property is and the extended rainy season made it even more so with very poor road conditions. Be sure to stock up on EVERYTHING you'll need before going up there as a trip to any store or restaurant will be lengthy. "Beautiful property and room! The pools are plentiful and never felt crowded—we saw a monkey! Treat yourself to an evening sunset by the lobby bar—breathtaking! The beach is ona beautiful cove. My kids enjoyed the rocky areas for “tidepooling” for hermit crabs, fish, etc. There is a nice reef right off the beach where daily snorkeling activities are available. We saw a puffer fish, some colorful tropical fish and a spotted ray. Note the beach is public, but the locals are friendly and not loud. There are no loungers down close to the ocean (a little higher up on the sand close to the property, but not many people sat there). It was a tad of an annoyance to see 9 jet skis in the cove almost everyday. They are for rental. My family did enjoy them one day, however, 2 or three would suffice. 9 surely took away from the tropical island feel and I looked forward to each evening when they disappeared. The room was luxurious and had everything you needed. We did purchase a 2 queens room with a small plunge pool—in hindsight sight we did not use it much and we noticed these pools were only on the first floors (preventing a better view). It did seem like there were only a few larger suites with a corner pool on the upper floors of buildings). The dining was pretty good. The breakfast spread at TicoTica was great and unexpected. We enjoyed Peacock Alley to watch the World Cup USA game—a great vibe. Kids enjoyed the pool with the slide and the teen room was cool. Pura Vida!"

Hotel Riu Guanacaste - All Inclusive

"The location is nice (we saw monkeys by the forest edge!) and the property is clean overall. But there were some hiccups. For instance, they forgot to give us towels half of the time. Or the correct number of towels. Or bottled water. And they hardly had any towels by the pool. You had to wait until they were replaced. The kids water park (with the colorful slides) had missing tile and some of it was coming loose as you were walking around it - which was dangerous for kids feet. But you always saw the staff cleaning the floors and were very attentive at all the restaurants."

"Westin Reserva Conchal stay was amazing. The beach, the staff, the grounds, rooms, food, drinks, everything was chef kiss. We were able to see many iguanas, howler monkeys, and birds. The only downside is that the beach has public access and they got sellers and they can be pushy, otherwise amazing stay. My family and I were able to enjoy the grounds, beach and pool. I will definitely be back."

Jardín del Edén Boutique Hotel - Adults Only

"We enjoyed our stay at this adults-only boutique hotel. While in the downtown, this hotel felt like a tropical oasis. The pools, gardens and walkways were peaceful and created a very romantic atmosphere. (We met many couples on their honeymoon during our stay.) The hotel included breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was a nice buffet with a free mimosa station. The dinner menu changed daily, we were given the menu at breakfast and would then place our orders for the evening. (A vegetarian menu was available every day.) Drinks at dinner were not included. Overall, the food was good. There was a nice path from the hotel to the downtown and beach club. We tried a few local restaurants for lunch (highly recommend the Falafel Bar) and also ate lunch at the beach club (the chicken nachos were delicious!) The beach club had a great beach bar with nice views and drinks. Yoga (as well as other activities) were complimentarty and offered throughout our stay. We tried a yoga class and it was excellent. The staff were very friendly. Our room was dated but clean, our balcony had a beautiful view of the grounds and ocean. This hotel is a solid choice for Tamarindo."
