Everything about our stay was amazing. Sankara was easily one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in around the world. They made our honeymoon incredibly special.
Excellent hotel, we felt taken care of from the airport pickup throughout our 2-night stay. They recommended a tour guide to go hiking in the forest, which was super helpful. The pool and the food was amazing (both the a la carte and prix fixe menus).
Sankara is a great choice for yakushima, and my recommendation for anyone traveling there. The service is top flight. Our butler/concierge Sam was helpful, joyful, and outright hospitable with just the rain got amount of fussing-he intuited our needs perfectly. Food is fantastic-seafood fresh and prepared with nuance. The young (very young!) pastry chef is not only a genius, but sweet-she has an amazing career ahead of her. Bacon (breakfast) is of note. All this because half pension is included. Room is large and comfortable which is not of little mportance with all the rain n that yakushima gets. Bravo!
An extraordinarily blissful stay in this gorgeous secluded boutique resort. Wonderful attention to detail both in the rooms and the delicious, creative food. My daughter is vegetarian and eating in Japan has been a challenge, but the chef came up with delicious food for her at every meal!
Staff were all delightful and genuinely cared that we had everything we could possibly need. I especially want to mention Ryoko, who raises the level of the hotel even higher.
Exceptional in every way. The food and service were very good indeed and the staff did everything possible to make your stay memorable - it felt as though it was very important to them that you were happy.
To compare this hotel with any other would be a disservice to its greatness. My wife and I arrived by ferry and were greeted by our butler (who quickly became our friend), Yui, with a friendly presence that we felt thru our entire stay. It took all of 30 seconds on the Sankara grounds to decide our stay needed to be extended by an extra day. We had the two best meals of our lives in the French restaurant. I say again, 2 BEST MEALS OF OUR LIVES. I could go on and on about every detail and moment when we were surprised by their welcoming spirit but this is already getting long. I will only say that if any of the Sankara staff were to visit our town, we would welcome them into our home and only hope to make them feel as honored a guest as they did us.
