Centrally located, quiet and clean residence
Perfect for a couple, this clean and comfortable Hillcrest one bedroom suite was as advertised. The hosts were excellent to communicate with, and the check in process was seamless. The snacks and drinks were a bonus, and there was plenty of room in the suite for us. Would recommend this property for a couple and I would definitely return the next time I’m in San Diego.

Location is wonderful! The house needs a to be updated a bit. There is an annoying, constant squeaky sound from the unit above the couch that needs to be addressed. I don’t like that we have to pay a cleaning fee and yet strip the bed, take out the trash and do the dishes. Either lower the fee or include the after stay in the fee. The place is too small to warrant both.

Delightful condo
This was our 2nd stay at the Hideaway and once again we found the cozy condo to be exceptionally clean and comfortable. The little touches of complimentary coffee and snacks are so appreciated and Efrain is a wonderful host who went out of his way to help me retrieve an item left behind. Thank you and we will be back.

Great place and neighborhood
Stayed here for a couple of days to visit the SD Zoo. The zoo was an easy walking distance both too and from after a long day at the zoo. Communication was prompt and clear with the owners. Property was clean and had an abundance of amenities and extras. If i travel to SD again, I would stay here again.

Location, Location, Location and a really nice place
We spent the past two weeks in this apartment and had a wonderful time visiting tourist attractions and going out of the city area to the beaches, and parks. The zoo was less than 1/2 mile walking from our door to their gates. Driving times to anywhere in the city area to the border, Zoo Safari and the beaches was 15-25 minutes max. Entrances to the highway system were close by. The neighborhood was quiet and safe and charming with lots of craftsman houses. I found a walking trail cutting through the community in a small canyon. Vey cool. The apartment itself had everything we needed to cook and eat all our meals, full size fridge with ice and water dispenser, full stove/oven, coffee pot and toaster. the bed was very comfortable and the hot water was plentiful. We loved the full size washer/dryer in the garage. The apartment was spotless when we arrived and everything is maintained well. The owners left us a selectin of K-cups, snacks and bottled water gratis. Response from the owner on a small issue was impressive , polite and welcoming. For those who love BIG TVs - the TV in the living room will exceed your expectations. You can stream any service on it. We just signed into our regular services. No local TV or Cable access. Wi-Fi was speedy during the day and the evening. Our only issue was the fact that one of us is 5'2" tall and and the shower head and table-top seating were just a bit high for comfort. I am 5'4" and I was fine. Highly recommend

Cozy spot near Balboa Park.
The house is a great value for the area, with easy access to Balboa Park and the surrounding areas. The guidebook provided by the host was helpful, along with the snacks and coffee. One criticism is that the power seemed to fluctuate when running multiple appliances causing the TV and lights to dim. The bedroom shares a wall with the neighboring unit and the sound transmits pretty easily from the other unit, so ear plugs are recommended. I brought this up to the host and they were quick to let our neighbors know to keep it down at night. Water pressure was great, having access to a patio was a nice convenience as well. Overall this was the perfect spot for us and our two dogs.

Great Hillcrest location!
A very cute clean house with comfortable bed; just perfect for our short break. Having a garage is great so no worries about finding a parking spot. Complimentary coffee and snacks are much appreciated, as is Netflix TV. The best thing about this rental is the great location. The neighborhood is wonderful to walk around enjoying all the Craftsman homes and lush gardens. Five minutes walk to the zoo and Balboa Park. Ten minutes walk to the fab Hillcrest restaurants, Sunday Farmers Market and eclectic stores. Beaches and other attractions are a short drive. We loved it!

Perfect!
We stayed here for 4 nights on our honeymoon and it was everything we needed! The location was fantastic! Our truck would not fit in the little garage but there was plenty of street parking and we never had to park far from the unit! The kitchen is well stocked and everything was super clean! We would stay again!

Wonderful property in Hillcrest!
What a great neighborhood! It’s so close to everything in San Diego! The property was lovely and we slept well in the bedroom. We had two other adults that slept on the sofa type bed. I would not recommend it for 2 couples. The photo on the listing shows a different sectional sofa which is why I chose the property for the large sectional. The one there now is much smaller. Overall, a wonderful place to enjoy San diego.

Excellent Location for zoo and Balboa Park
A 12-minute walk or a 3-minute drive to the front of the zoo, this is a great choice for a couple or small family. The kitchen is well-supplied with the basic equipment for easy meal prep (with the added bonus of some snacks and cold water and soft drinks), and the private patio is a bonus for enjoying San Diego weather. The host responds quickly to any questions and is quite helpful.

Great property in a great location.
We really enjoyed our stay here. Close to everything Balboa park is right next-door and what a nice neighborhood. All the neighbors were saying hi to us when we’re out in the street going to the car. Felt totally safe.

Nice little apartment.
Stayed 3 nights here. Great location, right next to Balboa Park. The apartment was clean and came with a garage. The host was easy to communicate with and was timely in most responses.

Great location
This rental was perfectly located for enjoying Balboa Park. We appreciated the house rules as this is a duplex with the other side of the property being rented as well. While the walls between the units are pretty thin, the other guests respected the quiet times.

Clean, well situated, quiet neighborhood. Convenient for Balboa Park and zoo. The garage was a bonus, but only room for a small car. It was a tight squeeze, but we managed to get our car inside. The snacks and drinks were a nice touch. Shares a wall with an adjoining property, but not too much noise. Efrain answered promptly any questions we had. Overall a nice little house and we would stay again!

Great place in a great neighborhood
Loved this little one bedroom getaway in Balboa Park. Very safe and conveniently located neighborhood to walking distance restaurants and bars. The host was so great and took care of us. Great communication. We brought our dogs and the extra fees were clearly stated and not excessive. The dogs loved the stay too, and there is a really nice nature path super close to take them walking through. The side yard is small and concrete only, so not good for pets to hang out in, but the neighborhood is so great for walking and exploring. I will definitely stay here again when in the area again!

Felt like home

Excellent choice!
Efrain was excellent and communicated with us throughout the entire process. The neighborhood is great and there are a number of routes to take for peaceful family walks. We really appreciated the fact that the zoo was just a ten minute walk from the front door. We will definitely be staying here again.

Great Place to Stay by the San Diego Zoo
We stayed here while visiting the Zoo (less than a mile away). The neighborhood was great for us with lots of rainbow flags flying. We felt very comfortable there.

Better than a hotel.. Clean, cozy pet-friendly home!
Great house to stay in when visiting San Diego. Walking distance to Balboa Park & the famous San Diego zoo. The unit was immaculate and the neighborhood was very quiet. The unit does share a wall with another unit but we were not disturbed by any noises next door at all. The owner provides a few complimentary snacks, including waters and cokes in the refrigerator. The only real con that I can think of is that the bed was way too firm for my liking, but thats a personal preference. One recommendation for the property owner would be to provide a portable fan to be able to direct the air conditioning from the living room to the bedroom. There is a ceiling fan in the bedroom but it still got a little warm for us at times despite having the A/C unit in the living room on the lowest temp. We'd happily stay here again during our next San Diego trip!

Property is just as described. With a rental car, you are 15 minutes from most attractions….moments from the zoo. It’s a safe neighborhood, but you do need a car to find a places to eat. We would stay here again.

The house was actually very spacious and the bed very comfy. Neighborhood and location were great. Efrain was so friendly and helpful (we’d stay again just for him!). AC unit worked awesome (it was HOT so that was needed)! Only thing to be aware of is the outdoor space is very very limited and the unit does share a thin wall with another unit. So not a lot of space for enjoying outside and if your neighbors are noisy it could be frustrating. But 5 stars for all the rest!

Easy to get in with garage parking if you have small car. We used the driveway because our car was big. Pretty quiet neighborhood & central to most places. We had a internet issue but the owner fixed it the next day. Comfy bed to sleep in too. We would stay again.

Phenomenal, outstanding stay
No idea where to begin. This place is labeled as a "Hideaway" and wow it delivers as a true slice of paradise, tucked into the Hillcrest neighborhood. Easy access to everywhere; the place itself was clean and spacious for one person (or a couple). And I can't say enough about how nice the owner, Efrain, is. The shower handle broke and within 2 hours it was replaced. I highly recommend staying here, especially for a long visit (1 week for me), because it really is a little "home away from home". My only feedback would be the mattress and couch will need replacement soon as they've clearly seen a lot of use (totally expected with all these glowing reviews and people staying here!). But it was all the same a fantastic stay and I couldn't have asked for better. Thank you!!

Efrain our host was very nice and friendly- our arrival and check in was easy and convenient. The kitchen was stocked with coffee ,drinks and some snacks which was very nice since we arrived on a very rainy evening. The place was just the right size for my husband and I and our dog. My son came for a few days and stayed on a queen sofa bed. I definitely would stay there again.

We were lucky to find this place!
This rental is perfect for one or two people. It's cozy, very comfortable, and ideally located in a quiet neighborhood. It was walking distance for us to Balboa park, restaurants, and grocery stores. The bed was comfortable with super-soft sheets and I appreciated the selection of pillows. I also appreciated that there were lots of hangers in the closet. The mini split unit kept the temperature nice throughout the unit. The host provided an assortment of snacks, drinks, coffee (Keurig), tea and we enjoyed it all. I don't think I could have asked for a better place to stay for our week in San Diego!
