This rental was the 4th Christmas in Tahoe for our extended family. The rental amount for Highland Lodge was twice what I have paid for the 2 previous Tahoe rentals of almost identical size therefore I expected a higher level of quality in furnishings, kitchen equipment, bedding and above all cleanliness. I requested an early check in but was told that there were renters leaving the morning of our arrival and the cleaning staff would need time to clean and Covid cleaning protocols are in place. Unfortunately the cleaning was not what it should have been.When we checked in at 4pm it was apparent that there was very little cleaning that had been done. The area rug in the upstairs living room had been vacuumed, kitchen counters & sink appeared clean and bathroom sinks look clean.TV remotes for each TV were filthy, dust and cobwebs throughout, coffee table was wobbly, hardwood floors and bedroom rugs very dirty, hair & debris in silverware drawer, cookware worn out, we had to slam the microwave door to get it to work, drips down front of stove, hood exhaust fans caked with grease, stair handrails not connected to wall on one end, shower doors filthy, bed pillows completely flat, mattresses worn out, previous renters underwear & socks in dresser drawer, used bandaid found on upstairs master bedroom floor, hair in bathtubs, small couch in downstairs master bedroom disgustingly stained.We had a loss of hot water and the property management/repair staff were extremely polite, responsive and sent a repairman within an hour to resolve the problem.While the property it self is great for large groups until the cleaning issues and upgrades in beds and furnishings are addressed I would not recommend this property. To be fair I sent an email to the property management detailing with photos the issues we encountered to afford them the opportunity to check the property themselves and correct things. I requested a refund of the cleaning fee and was granted the ref
