Fort Matanzas National Monument was built in 1742 to defend Spanish St. Augustine from the British, nearly 300 years ago.

Fort Matanzas has a very long & interesting history, closely connected with the founding of St. Augustine by Pedro Menendez de Aviles. In 1565, Menendez murdered over 250 French Protestants including the famed Jean Ribault, on the land where the Fort is today. Due to the history of the site, the Spanish named both the fort and the inlet "Matanzas," which means "slaughters" in English. That name carries on to this day.

「This is a very nice unit with an excellent location. The unit is well supplied with everything one needs and is very close to shopping, restaurants, and tourist attractions. The only complaint we had was that the local track pickup was earlier than we would have liked and was very noisy. The parking situation is a bit odd (it uses the parking for old town) but it does work and is included in the cost of the unit.」

「Apartment is exactly as described and clean! There are two bedrooms, one bed was very soft and the other a more firm. We have a midsize suv that fit easily in the parking area which is definitely big enough for two SUVs. You are a two minute walk to old town and the neighborhood is quiet and charming.
