Varenna Castello di Vezio Hotels

"We stayed at Casa Mara for six nights with our son and daughter-in-law and two young grandchildren. Our hosts Paolo and Mara greeted us on our arrival. (Paolo met us at the train station and guided our walk to the apartment.) They could not have been more gracious as hosts. The unit is beautiful and very comfortable. We especially enjoyed cooking dinner and dining together at the large kitchen table and time spent relaxing in the loft watching boats on the lake and observing the ever changing landscape of clouds and sun and mountains out the large picture windows. The location in the heart of old Varenna was perfect - a short walk to the water, the piazza, ferries, restaurants, groceries, bakery and playground. We enjoyed the Villa Monestero and Villa Cipressi a short walk away and a hike up to the Castello de Vesio. Daytrips to Managgio and Bellagio were easily done by ferry. We arranged with a local taxi driver - Monica - to take us to our family cooking class high above Bellano. All worked out very well and made for a relaxing, memorable stay at Lake Como."

"Incredible stay on Lake Como! Exceeded expectations every step of the way. We chose due to the perfect location - easy to get to from train station, ferries across the lake to Bellagio or private boats or boat taxis. The gardens and property are absolutely stunning. Can’t wait to return!"

"Very clean and updated room. Lots of personal touches throughout our stay: a hand written note in our room with some chocolates/cookies and complimentary prosecco. The grounds were stunning and it was a special treat to have access to the gardens after hours. Would highly recommend this hotel. "

"Location wise this property was excellent and the apartment itself had everything we needed.Check in was with Ettore (a lovely gentleman) who doesn’t actually speak English which didn’t really affect check in however did make it difficult to ask any additional questions. We are over 65 travellers and the 30 stairs to get up to the apartment added a degree of difficulty getting our suitcases up the stairs on check in and down when we left. The spiral staircase (which I must admit I did see in the photos) did prove to be a little difficult especially going to use the bathroom through the night.The surrounding restaurants were all fantastic - Alberto del Sole, La Scarpetta, Il Cavatappi and Osteria Quattro Pass. All within a minutes walk of the apartment. View from the upstairs bedroom was magical at night. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay but think we may have reconsidered where we had stayed taking into consideration our age."

"Rita, was one of the most delightful ladies I ever meet. She wanted to help with everything. Taxi call rita, more towels call rita, need to pet a dog, well for that one you will have to call pepo. The resort was beautiful, our room overlooking the pool area and olive tree grove. There was a restaurant on site and wonderful breakfast every morning (a rare fine to have included). There was a washing machine in our room so that was nice too. The only downside was that the hotel is a half mile uphill from town, but you are rewarded with wonderful views."

"It was a wonderful and comfortable stay. The location is perfect to where we planned to go. The apartment is clean, loved their soft white towels and the linens they used. We also have the view of the lake. My friends are already planning to come back this summer and they want to book this property again. Thank you very much !"
