The location of the property is central and without traffic only 15 minutes from Mission Beach (which is why we were visiting). The listing indicates that this is in the direct flight path of the San Diego airport. Sure is! All you have to do is look up and you’ll see the bottom of a plane flying right over...so close you feel like you could reach up and touch them. (They stopped flying somewhere around 11:00 pm.) Parking is a nightmare if you’re not good at parallel parking, and spaces are extremely limited. The cottage is quaint and welcoming. Dogs are allowed and that worked out great. There is a courtyard for them to potty and it’s gated so they can’t run off. We arrived around noon (requested 12:30 check in)and after driving around for 20 minutes waiting for someone to leave so that we could park, I finally just double parked to go and see if the place was ready for us. I had been in contact with the owner via text to confirm 12:30 check in and conveyed that this was our intention. Upon arrival there was a very nice guy cleaning named Tony. He advised he was not ready for us yet as he was not aware we had requested early check in. He said he’d be about 30 minutes. Fortunately in the time it took to find this out a space opened up that I didn’t have to parallel park in (it was on the corner so I could just pull in, I’m terrible at parallel parking!). We waited around until 1:30 before we could unload the car. We were not charged the customary early check in fee of $50 which was gracious, and despite a few things that need to be addressed this is actually a good place to stay. Things that need immediate attention: The shower curtain needs replaced in the tub. It’s ripped at the top and is basically pointless. The queen mattress needs to go to the dumpster. (Literally folding in half.) It was humid during our stay and with no ac quite uncomfortable (we’re from Arizona where we don’t deal with humidity). We ended up going to Lowe’s and buying a fan. Although that helped we still had to keep the widows open. Unfortunately this allowed the neighbors marijuana aroma to waft into our cottage. We don’t smoke it so this was quite annoying, and I’m positive that they were up all night as I did not sleep through the night and could hear them having a good time. This is the first time that we have stayed inland when coming to San Diego and location is key. That being said, with the issues I couldn’t imagine staying here more than a day or two at max.
