“The reason I haven’t scored 5 is that Expedia sold us a room that had issues with noise / cooking smells as it’s above the kitchen and is noisey and smelly when the staff are cooking. We stayed in a room named Helvellyn and Expedia didn’t state any issues with any rooms. If we had booked direct with the queens head it details the room helvellyn as having issues with noise etc due to it’s proximity to the kitchen. I think Expedia have been misleading not detailing the facts about that particular……

“Wonderfully authentic Lakeland Inn.Our stay was peaceful with so many opportunities for walks straight from the door.Limited options available for dinner, would have appreciated more choices.cooked breakfast was very good but some yoghurt, fruit would have been welcome.Selection of beers at the bar was very good.The staff work extremely hard but we thought an extra member of staff would have helped to reduce waiting times at dinner and breakfast”

“We booked Holbeck Ghyll as a special treat after two days of walking in the Lake District and were genuinely looking forward to it. The reality was a serious disappointment. The room was in a poor state of repair: mould on the bathroom ceiling, rusted window frames, failing grout and sealant with black mould in the tile joints, and paint peeling throughout the bathroom. These are not superficial issues — they represent basic maintenance failures that should not exist in any hotel, let alone one……

“Natural site, room is in high standard. The host is friendly and his cooking for breakfast is appreciated. Though it takes 15 minutes walk from bus stop, the way around is full of natural feeling. You may breathe a natural smell or listen to sheep voice. It's an excellent experience and will highly recommend my friends to visit and myself is highly and likely to revisit again. ”

“Parking space was a great plus. A nice old traditional pub with plenty tables outside. Bed comfortable enough for one night stay. Good, powerful shower. Delicious full english breakfast. Dining room was a little fusty and in need of a some TLC and the evening meal was a bit overpriced for what it was but still an overall charming stay in this gorgeous location. ”
