If you haven't been to Kyoto for many years, you will be shocked at how many tourists are there. Fushimi Inari shrine and Kiyomizu temple in particular were mobbed with tourists. If I were going again, I would skip Fushimi Inari, due to the crowds.

Kyoto is a much bigger city than I thought it would be! There is so much to do that it is impossible to do it all. If there is somewhere you want to eat I would try and make reservations in advance! Lots of cool little small streets to wander down.

Wish we could have stayed onger! We didn't realise we booked during the Gion festival so Kyoto was super-crowded at night but it was exciting! Highly recommend getting up early to head to Fushimi-inari & Kiyomizu-dera to beat the crowds! Wonderful!

If you only go to one city in Japan it has to be Tokyo. But if you go to 2, the other has to be Kyoto. Very different vibe, older classic feel, beautiful surroundings and unlimited temples shrines and culture. Just be prepared for tourists. Lots.

Kyoto is a nice blend of modern city with many historic temples, shrines, and other sights scattered everywhere. It was a little too crowded and touristy in some areas for my taste -- especially the famous temples -- but that's my sole complaint.

Of the big three, Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo, Kyoto was the most traditional part of our trip. I loved seeing the temples and shrines, and my pre-teen daughter did as well. Please be respectful, other tourists have almost ruined it for everyone else.

Kyoto itself is such a lovely and beautiful area - one of my favorite areas we visited in Japan! Fushimi Inari and the 1000 torii gates was breath taking, and the Arashiyama bamboo forest was an amazing experience. We loved our visit to Kyoto!

Kyoto is beautiful. There's a lot of day trips you can take from Kyoto, such as Osaka, Nara and Kobe, but I'd recommend staying at least a week in just Kyoto. Popular social media attractions aside, there's a lot of history to explore there.

Kyoto is a fascinating city with a seemingly infinite number of historical and cultural attractions for the visitor, but it can be crazily crowded and tourists need to accept that level of popularity if they visit at busy times of the year.
"Great location and beautiful hotel, staff and service very helpful with English speaking staff to help with communication. Roof top deck is very nice though it was hot good place for a beer. Fitness room and laundry services. Close to the main attractions in the Gion district so easy to wake up and head on over. Highly recommend staying here if you are in Kyoto. "
"Was a great hotel. Room was a bit small and the worst part was the bed was too low to the floor so you couldn't store a suitcase closed underneath, I had to open mine and slide it under. Overall staff was nice and they helped ship our luggage to Osaka. Also directly across from the train was superior! So helpful and would stay here again."
