Great little condo at a beautiful resort

We have stayed at this same condo once before and enjoyed coming back for a second time. All amenities are provided and many extras to ensure your stay is comfortable without having to buy a lot of extras like beach chairs, umbrellas, even books and games for a family.

Nice place at the beach

Nice place, would recommend. Guest parking is a bit far, but that is balanced out by the fact that the property and amenities are great. Everything is convenient, and there are stores both in the building and within walking distance.

Great room and relaxing visit.

Room was spacious and nicely decorated with a bedroom, huge bath and living/kitchen area. Easy check-in with the bell desk - friendly and helpful staff. Easy access to pool towels using the automated pool area dispensers. And of course, having Duke’s onsite is great.

Perfect Get Away!

This place was amazing! From the room to all the amenities. Everything you need is conveniently located stores, restaurants, beaches etc. What we really loved about this place was that no matter where you went on the resort it didn’t feel crowded at all. When getting away specially to Hawaii we always try to stay somewhere that it is not too crowded and I can genuinely say that this place tops all of them. 100% recommend to anyone who is looking for the perfect spot in Lahaina/Maui.

Very dirty

Couches we’re filthy stained…. Cushion on chairs in kitchen also disgusting. This unit is not very nice at all. Location is ok, but small compared to others. Or it just seems small because of how everything is in there.

Group Wedding

Came along with a large group for a wedding. Rental was clean and proximity to amenities was close. A few surprises include the ownership opt out of poolside towel service and parking. On the parking note, I was told complex has 600 units but only 200 underground spots available. Often required a 5 minute walk if returning to unit after 8pm. Did call Vacasa three times regarding towel before I could be provided an answer as to why key fobs didn’t unlock towel lockers. Perhaps I missed this detail in rental agreement, but seems like a very relevant service to provide to tenants. I would consider staying at Honua Kai again, but would look into the other building first (I stayed at Konea).

Great Family Resort…some minor issues

We are frequent guests on Maui and usually stay on Ka’anapali Beach at another resort. Honua Kai was recommended to us by several friends who love it. The resort is great and the staff are very friendly but we felt our stay fell short in a few areas. Pros: -A few steps to the beach and a nice walkway along the shore - Great pools and plenty of available lounge chairs or cabanas for rent at reasonable prices. - Room was clean and had a beautiful view! We were able to watch the sunset from the lanai… between a couple buildings but still lovely. - Comfy beds. We all slept great. - Washer dryer in unit worked great and allowed us to pack a little lighter. Cons: - Room is ready for some updates. It was very clean but pretty beat up/stained and a bit musty. - 1 beach towel per person is all that is provided for a week at the pool/ beach. It was disappointing to find out that our room didn’t have access to several of the resort amenities including pool towel vending machines - No on-site service! It was enough of a hassle to contact Vasaca for simple matters/ instruction that we just gave up on it. Vacasa provides very clear instructions/ info for how to reach them in emergencies or if you’ve damaged something but no clear instructions in the unit or number to call them say… if you’d like more soap. We felt very much on our own to figure everything out. Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed our stay. This was our first time booking with Vacasa, so maybe there is a learning curve. Just go into it knowing that you don’t have access to the entire resort experience/staff on-site service. It was a bummer being told at every request that on site staff can’t assist you, and you’ll have to contact your property manager.

Cockroaches, stains and mildew

The room had an amazing view; HOWEVER, the room itself was a disaster... When we first got there, we noticed an odd smell. To me, it smelled like maybe someone had recently smoked in the room combined with the stench of mold/mildew - Possibly the furniture as the couch and stools at the island counter all looked stained as if they’d been wet several times before and poorly cleaned. If someone told me the owner found the couch and chairs sitting in someone’s front yard with a “free” sign on it, I’d believe them. Then, the big finale.... We had to kill upwards of 20 cockroaches in about 24 hours time! They were everywhere... Including on the couch and in the bed! Not to mention when we tried to make sandwiches for lunch and, after stepping away for a brief moment, found one on our food that we then had to throw away. This place needs to be bug bombed, thoroughly cleaned and have the furniture replaced before anyone should stay there again! Vacasa did relocate us to a new room (without the amazing view) and provide us with a small partial refund for our troubles. So I applaud them for their efforts to make this right. But it really did ruin the first couple days of our trip and, thereafter, robbed us of the incredible view we opted to pay extra money for. Frankly, I’d like a larger refund as we wound up with a lesser view and in a different building than our friends with whom we originally planned this trip. So, overall, my level of trust for any properties managed by Vacasa is tarnished - Not sure we’ll use them again. And I’d certainly recommend to anyone that they STAY AWAY from this particular room, despite how beautiful it appears online.

Birthday Celebration for relative

The room was perfect, my sister and I had a great view! Would stay at this resort again. The valet parking is free, they were short on staff at the time, but we could park ourselves in resort parking provided if we didn't want to wait on the Valet.

Spacious 1-bedroom with amenities and view

For being a 1-bedroom, we found this unit to be spacious, with an enormous bathroom (dual sinks, large shower, and separate bathtub), large sitting area with dining table, and typical kitchen. We loved having laundry in the unit, and the balcony was large and had a great view

Honua Kai Resort is amazing, this unit leaves more to be desired

We have stayed in Honua Kai rooms previously. The location of the resort is incredible. We love the beaches that are literally on the back steps and the pools are amazing for our kids. We look forward to staying at Honua Kai again. However, staying at this resort before, in other rooms, has given us a good idea of expectations. This particular unit left things to be desired, and we would not book again in this unit or likely with this owner group. Upon walking into the unit, our view in this room was breathtaking. It was clean, organized and just as described in the listing. However our concerns over the 13 days we were in the unit were about the little things that add up over the time of our stay. Little things that other units at Honua Kai provide. These were: -Strong musty smell in the unit that we had to correct with scented wall plug ins -The air conditioning thermostat was set on a locked timer and did not allow for easy use to personal preferences -The balcony doors were so stiff and jammed so bad that they were incredibly hard to close. -The fridge was quite worn out, broken shelves and had a hard time keeping food cold. -Very little beach gear in the closet(many rooms normally provide good chairs,umbrella,sand castle toys etc). The chairs they provided were rusty, and not useable. No beach umbrella was in the room. So plan on purchasing your own. -They do not provide enough towels for beaches/pool use. You are also not entitled to use the resorts towel program when staying in this particular room. -The keycard/wristbands do not open the secondary gate to enter the resort, you must always enter the main entrance instead of the shorter gate access entrance. -The TV’s are old and not smart TV’s. It would have been nice after a day on the beaches to watch Netflix at night. There was only very basic and poor quality analog cable network service. -The wifi log on info provided does not work, when contacted they do not reply. The correct wifi name and passcode is located on the back of the cable box. -Checkout info is not clear or specific to Honua Kai on how to return wristbands/parking pass key cards. When contacted they did not return our texts. We would recommend staying at Honua Kai Resort to any of our family & friends. Perhaps just a different unit.

Dirty and broken dryer

This unit is very dated. Carpets and furniture are dirty and old. Need professional cleaning or replacing. Dryer was broken and was not fixed during our stay.

A Great Time

Nice place, amenities were good. We had to buy spices, oil for cooking. Plenty of dishes, cookware. W/D in unit are noisy and dryer took awhile to dry but were great to have in the unit. There are no hand towel racks in the bathroom. Small view of the water and palm trees. Room was quiet. If you leave the balcony door open birds will come right in! Unit had iron, hair dryer, hangars in closet, TP, garbage bags, towels, beach towels. No room service or cleaning for our 1 week stay. The property is beautiful but was small in comparison to other resorts. Lots of smaller pools and hot tubs. Slide was fun but more for younger kids. Lazy river was very lazy:( Chairs were always full:(. As most resorts are, the drinks at the pool from Dukes are pricey. BBQ grills were great for cooking. Beach is ok but no boarding. Boardwalk takes you to other resorts, nice for morning walks. Store was also pricey but again that’s expected at a resort. We probably won’t come back to this resort as we like to try other places.

Beautiful location but property in poor shape

Beautiful location but property in poor shape- the master bath room and bedroom had mold on the walls, the furniture is dirty, the was damage to the walls. The staff were prompt when reporting issues - the washing machine leaked when we used it. There also was confusion with our keys and it took numerous phone calls and stops to the security office to get straightened out. We’d definitely come back to Maui and the honua kai likely wouldn’t not rent this property again
