The Grand Hotel Birmingham

The Grand Hotel Birmingham

8/10 Good
"A very well-presented hotel in a great location. We stayed in a suite, which was spacious and well appointed. Unfortunately, breakfast was disappointing. Although service runs until 11am, by 10am several buffet staples, including bread and orange juice, had run out and were not being replenished. The restaurant staff were friendly, but the team appeared understaffed and service was slow. I ordered the smoked salmon and scrambled egg bagel. The bagel came without butter, out the packet and on the plate and the scrambled eggs lacked flavour and had a texture that suggested they had been microwaved. My wife’s full English with poached eggs was similarly lacking in flavour. As an aside, we had two at a table that barley had space for one person. Cramped unless you had a booth. We experienced the same slow service in the bar, which also appeared understaffed. The hotel itself has a lot going for it, but the food and service fell short of the standard set by the accommodation."

Holiday Inn Express Burton Upon Trent by IHG

Holiday Inn Express Burton Upon Trent by IHG

8/10 Good
"The room was surprisingly spacious for an Express hotel. The storage space and shelving was well thought out. A huge bed and big comfy chair and table. The shower room was very clean and well maintained. The bedroom was generally clean but there were some tea stains on the carpet under the shelving. I also noticed an old wrist band down behind the bedside table which had clearly been missed during cleaning. The reception, bar and breakfast staff were friendly and helpful. It was an especially late night/early morning finish for the bar staff on Saturday night which was much appreciated by some members of our party. The hotel was very busy but there was a good amount of parking spaces provided."
