Great for an unforgettable trip to Yosemite! This cabin is at the top of a bright hilltop with mountain views and starry night skies. Its comfort and seclusion makes for a perfect retreat after exploring the park all day, yet its location makes it easy for you to get around. As local residents and former park rangers, our exclusive pro-tips are a bonus. We know the area: 10-minutes to town of Mariposa, 15-minutes to Wild and Scenic Merced River, and 1-hour to Yosemite Valley. (For 3+ night base rent discount, inquiry BEFORE booking, excluding many holidays.) In 2024, advanced Peak Hour Plus Reservations required to enter Yosemite on specific dates (see park website for information and purchase details or ask us).

Brief but great stay
We only stayed two nights as base for a one day adventure to Yosemite— and wish we could have had more time at both the park and at the home as both were fantastic! The home was very comfortable for our family of 6, and a convenient location to get to the park and also to the lovely town of Mariposa!

Spectacular place to stay

Loved our time at this cabin
Would like to say a sincere thank you to Margaret for her awesome communication. This cabin was perfect for us, and we had three incredible days in Yosemite NP. Be sure to wake up early getting into the park! We also highly recommend the june bug cafe at Yosemite Bug about 10 minutes down the road.

The host, Margaret is helpful in communicating unforeseen issues like smoke condition, trail closure, and road condition. The house is immaculately kept. It is welcoming after a day of hiking, especially the ability to cook warm food. Stay in this cabin if you're going to Yosemite.

Family Trip
The house was wonderful and everyone fit perfectly. We have 3 teenagers and they had their own beds and bathroom. We really enjoyed sitting in the family room and playing trivia together. The dining room was great for pizza night with the family after a long day at Yosemite!!

Great outdoors
This place was just what we all needed. Scenic, quiet, and relaxing. Less than an hour to Yosemite, 10 mins to the nearest town which is so cute and convenient. The property was so spacious outside as it was inside, great for a sunset or sunrise walk. Saw a few deer which was awesome for my little one to experience. Overall it was a great location and the host was very attentive.

Black Oak Hill was a lovely, comfortable house for our family's trip to Yosemite. Margaret and Charlie were super helpful in providing information about the park and also current conditions related to wildfires. We appreciated being well informed during these times. Great home near Yosemite and wonderful owners
Our family recently spent 4 nights at Margaret and Charlie's Park Ranger's house as our base camp for our time in Yosemite National Park. The house is in Mariposa in a rustic location; very quiet and secluded. The house was very clean and well stocked. My wife also got a kick out of the 3 hummingbirds that live in the tree outside the kitchen window and routinely feed from the feeder outside the window. Our stay was affected by various construction projects in Yosemite, the park reservation requirement, and especially the Washburn fire that closed the Mariposa Groves and Wawona area off. But we were able to deal with it as well as we did through the plentiful assistance provided by Margaret. Prior to our arrival, she kept us up to date on the reservation system and other useful information that might affect our stay. And while there, she kept updating us with up-to-the-minute information about the fire and smoke patterns. If we are lucky enough to be back in Yosemite, I would not hesitate to stay with Charlie and Margaret again, if only for the extra mile they go to make one's stay with them as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. You can really tell that they care. Thanks for making our time in Yosemite a memorable part of our vacation.
