" It was my first time staying at the property. The shared bathroom and shared kitchen was concern at first, but I got used to after the first night. On the first night, there was another guest sleeping on the couch in the shared living room. That MF snored like a loud dying pig. The walls are not that thick and I could hear him from my room. But, liked that the room opened to the balcony. The room, Room 2, where I stayed was close to a highway so the traffic noise was bearable, but the traffic died down in the evening. The balcony also has two plastic Adirondack chairs where I sat every morning watching the sunrise, if you could look beyond the power cables that sometimes interfered with the view. The property was within 20 min of where I needed to go. There’s a McDonald’s with an all-day/all-night drive through; would get my coffee and breakfast and sit on the balcony waiting for the sunrise. It would be nice to have a Keurig that is connected to the plumbing so no need to refill. There’s also a full size fridge/freezer where you can store your leftovers."

"The three of us were very comfortable in suite 1 with the little twin window bed. The sound of the ocean drowned out the songs of the coqui frogs. It was a great location to see the sights on the Hilo side. The breakfast was amazing: fresh fruit, French toast or coconut pancakes, eggs to order, and juice. They have a little cabinet with first aid items and extra sunscreen.The hosts were caring and thoughtful. Would definitely recommend this place!!!"

"It’s a utilitarian budget hotel without some pretty standard amenities like AC or in room WiFi, but for what it is it’s fantastic. Very close to some beautiful parks, and the bay views are great. "

"The Wild Ginger offers the true big island lodging experience. Staff is young, very friendly and helpful. Rooms are comfortable, clean and have a lovely vintage vibe. Anyone that has something negative to say about this hotel probably shouldn't be visiting this island. This place rocks! Stay Here!"

"Mahana House was a lovely, well-appointed lodging. The room was very spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed the comfy robes, lanai for morning coffee and evening cocktails, and the yummy fruit we picked on the farm. The shared kitchen and laundry had everything we might have overlooked. We even enjoyed fresh homemade banana bread from the housekeeper, Val. We grabbed a cooler and beach towels for day trips. We were able to do laundry before leaving. The nearest restaurants were back in Hilo, but the drive was easy and scenic. If you are looking for a relaxing, comfortable place to stay, then Mahana House will be perfect for you. "
